The Vision

Theatrum Orbis is a persistent, server-hosted multiplayer world where autonomous, meme-driven civilizations rise, spread, and collapse on their own — and players, as uniquely free agents, drop in to scavenge, trade, fight, explore, build cities, found factions, and wage war, bending the course of that living history.

A whole world runs without you: thousands of simulated people learn, trade, believe, and die, writing their own history. You are a mind that can truly choose inside it — perceiving across the whole world, inventing, designing, and taking risks the simulation never would. The world doesn’t revolve around you, and that’s what makes your mark on it matter.

Everything in the project sits in one of four layers. Reading the wiki top-to-bottom teaches the whole design.

The load-bearing claim — and the thing that makes this one game rather than a pile of mechanics: every player feature is, underneath, an act of acquiring, creating, spreading, or weaponizing memes.

The meme system is the unique selling point. It’s not a tech tree bolted onto a sandbox — it’s the engine that makes civilizations dynamic: a living canvas of knowledge and belief that players join, fight, and manipulate. See The Meme System.
