Worlds & Multiplayer
🚧 In progress — a whole pillar we’ve only just named.
Theatrum Orbis is multiplayer and server-hosted. Worlds are persistent and can be public or private, hosting one to many players who coexist — cooperating, competing, and going to war with each other, not only against the simulation.
What’s decided
Section titled “What’s decided”- Worlds are persistent and server-hosted.
- Public or private worlds.
- One-to-many players per world.
- Players are the primary dynamic agents acting on and through the living canvas.
To design
Section titled “To design”- World hosting, ownership, administration, and moderation.
- How many live players + the abstract↔concrete projection share one world (load, sharding, the concrete-entity budget).
- What happens to a player’s character, holdings, and factions while they’re offline.
- Player-vs-player interaction model: cooperation, competition, war, and politics.
- Session/onboarding model for new players joining an established world.
